India witnessed the worst COVID surge this week. On Sunday, the country registered 3.55 lakh new COVID cases and 2,807 deaths - both record highs.

In a span of seven days between April 18 and April 25, the country reported 22.49 lakh cases, the highest number of cases reported by any country in a seven-day period since the onset of the pandemic. In comparison with 8,588 deaths reported in the week ending April 18, 16,257 deaths were reported in the last seven days.
